Split Sweater

Meet the Split Sweater. Modeled off of my design, the Split Tank, from a summer long ago. I really wanted to have a sweater version.  So, when I saw this new color of Lion Brand Color Theory in their booth at a show, I knew I had to do it. I’m still playing with curves and enjoying every minute.

There are a few differences between the Split Sweater and the Split Tank. First, I wanted it to be a top-down raglan construction, which meant it was going to need short rows to bring the neck down. I did it, but it is not the typical way. I think you’ll be intrigued with the short row construction.

The next difference is the split. I overlapped the ribbing around the split to give it sporty look. I love that it gives more coverage on the side but still shows off the curve.

I wanted it to be cropped because I was going for a sweatshirt fit. I have to admit that I prefer it cropped. It looks great over with high waist jeans, skirts and over dresses.

Now let’s talk about the curve. When I first designed the Split Tank, that curve gave me the business. I didn’t want that trapezoid shape that I usually see on curved hems. I wanted a round curve. It took me a few tries to get it right. The short rows incorporated into the ribbing maintained the shape. I love this so much I made two! I now have one in black. That’s a whole other story with my eyes! It was worth it though.

You can find the Split Sweater in my shop, or if kits are your jam, on the Lion Brand website as part of the 2025 Countdown to Christmas promotion. There are some cute designs included. Check out the lookbook.

I hope you love it as much as I do. Let me know if you plan to make one! I would love to see it.
