Welcome Flirtee to the family. And it’s just that, flirty. See what I did there? 😏
I have never been girly. I was the exact opposite growing up. I’ve had the idea for this top floating around in my head for a while. I kept thinking that maybe it was too girly. Am I that girl? Can I pull off ruffles? Can I actually translate this into yarn?
As I get older, I am tapping more into my feminine side. I find myself drawn to lighter colors and features like ruffles.
I started a sample, making tweaks to the construction with my friends being my counsel on the project. They always let me know if my ideas are good or need to be scrapped.
I had some Lion Brand Truboo in my stash that was the perfect weight and amount. I finished it, wrote the pattern and sent it off to Tech Editing.
The double-layer ruffle brings a bit of whimsy. A couple of my testers used different colors for each layer. 😍 This top is worked top-down and intended to be worn with 0-2” (0-4 cm) of positive ease. We’re leaning into our curves this year, ok?
I knew that Lion Brand would be looking for designs for their Summer Essentials promotion. I pitched it during the testing phase, and they loved it. Lucky for me, I was way ahead of schedule. It worked out perfectly.
Take a look at some of my tester versions. I love them all!

You can find it in my shop, or if kits are your jam, on the Lion Brand website. I used their Truboo yarn, which has so much drape. It was perfect for the ruffles.
Happy stitching! I’d love to see if you make it.
